IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management
Greenfriars is proud to work with the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment on the delivery of the Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management. Click here to download a summary of the course topics.
Who is the course for?
The foundation Certificate in Environmental Management is for everyone. There are no prerequisites, and you don't need to have a background in sustainability or environment to join. The course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to begin your sustainability and environment career.
The course is particularly relevant if you are changing careers into sustainability, have an interest in sustainability and environment and want to know more, want to bring elements of sustainability and environment into your current role, or if you are looking to apply for a sustainability role with your current employers. Even if you are already working in sustainability and environment, the course offers interest and value.
What will I learn?
The course provides a solid foundation in environmental management principles, regulations and best practices. Divided into eleven parts, the course starts out with general principles and proceeds to cover specific issues, methods and tools for environmental management, and sustainability more generally.
The eleven parts are listed here.
How will I learn?
At the moment we offer Virtual Live, or In Person versions of the course.
The delivery methods are varied, with a particular emphasis on conversation and discussion. Everyone on the course is unique and everyone brings useful and interesting perspectives to discussions. Teacher presentations, group tasks, quizzes and discussions form the bulk of the contact time.
You will have a course workbook and learner notes to help you along. Detailed learner notes mean you can concentrate on discussions and exercises without having to write too much down.
You will also have homework to do with revision, quizzes for the end of each day, and a practice exam.
What is the structure of the course?
You choose either a one-week course (Monday-Friday, 9.30-4.30), or one 9.30-4.30 day per week, for five weeks. We are always open to ideas about how the course can be successfully delivered around your existing commitments, so please get in touch with any suggestions.
How will I be assessed?
At the end of the course, you will be sent a link to the online exam. This is an open-book, one-hour multiple-choice exam, which you can do in your own time within two weeks of the end of your course.
What do I get after completing the course?
After completion you get a Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management (a globally recognised qualification), as well as one year's Associate Membership to IEMA, with all of the benefits an IEMA membership brings. Click here for more information on the Associate Membership.
How much does it cost?
Greenfriars' courses are competitively priced, and the prices are in the table below. The figures listed include VAT, the exam fee, and the IEMA membership, so there are no hidden costs.
